RSS is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines or podcasts. The RSS document which is called a 'feed' contains either a summary or the full text of the page. The RSS content can be read by using RSS reader software, feed reader or an aggregator. This technology has been widely used by million of web users in the internet to track their favorite website. The readers subscribed to the RSS will receive an update from the providers either on the reader software or through live bookmarks.
There are various RSS reader software available on the internet such as FeedDemon, NetNewsFire, NewFire, NewGator and a lot more. Some of them are distributed for free but some of them are not. Mozilla Thunderbird is one of the free RSS reader. The main function of this software is actually an e-mail client. But there is an RSS reader feature that we can use for free.
How to Configure RSS on Mozilla Thunderbird?
- Download the Mozilla Thunderbird from : http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/
- Install it on your computer with default configuration
- Run the software once it's installed. Go to 'Tools' - 'Account Settings'. Click on 'Add Account' - Select 'RSS News and Blogs' as the type of the account. Click Next..
- Type the 'Account Name' and click next.
- Verify the account information and then click finish.
- Close the account settings
- 'Right Click' on the RSS account and choose 'Subscribe'. Enter the RSS Feed address and click 'OK'. Now you can see the RSS feed subscribed
- Close the window and back to the Account dashboard. Now you can see the feed on the reader
